Question

Elizabeth has 5/ 13 as many stamps as Daisy.  When Daisy gave 104 stamps to Elizabeth, both of them had the the same number of stamps. How many stamps did Elizabeth have at first ?

Answer

Elizabeth : 5 units
Daisy : 13 units

13 units – 104 = 5 units + 104
13 units – 5 units = 8 units = 104 + 104 = 208
1 unit = 208/8 = 26
5 units = 5 x 26 = 130

Ans : 130 stamps.

This is a Before After question.

  Before    Transfer     After
Daisy    13u – 104 13u – 104
Elizabeth  5u + 104 5u + 104

13u – 104 = 5u + 104

13u – 5u = 104 + 104

8u = 208

1u = 208 ÷ 8 = 26

5u = 26 × 5 = 130
