Question

Hi the answer is (1). May I know why B is incorrect? Thought greater gravitational potential energy will be converted to more kinetic energy?. Thks

Answer

I think the reason is because the 2nd statement does not specify WHEN the kinetic energy was measured.

At the precise moment they jump, both of them have zero kinetic energy because speed is zero and they only have gravitational potential energy.

If the statement is rephrased to “… will have more kinetic energy when they hit the water”, then (B) would be correct.
