Question

Hi all need help with this question. Thank you!

Liyan had a bottle of syrup. She used an equal amount of syrup each day. At the end of the 12th day, 1/3 of the bottle was left. At the end of the 14th day, the amount of syrup left was 200ml. What was the amount of syrup in the bottle at first?

Answer

Method 1 :
1 – 1/3 = 2/3 = 12/18 (total amount of syrup used at the end of 12 days)
(2/3) /12 = (2/3) x (1/12) = 1/18 (amount of syrup used each day)
1 – (12/18) – (1/18) – (1/18) = 4/18 ——- 200
18/18 ——- (200/4) x 18 = 900

Method 2 :
1 – (1/3) = 2/3
(2/3) / 12 = (2/3) x (1/12) = 1/18 (amount of syrup used each day)
amount of syrup at first : 18 units
18 – 14 = 4
4 units = 200
18 units = (200/4) x 18 = 900

Ans : 900 ml.
