Question

Don’t u/s why Alan shd have 17 fifty-c coins 🙁

need a clearer explanation… thank you!

Answer

I think for 24 coins is just an assumption method.

You can also use 20 coins as an asumption.

Alan      7 + 13(50 cent) = 20

Ben       17 + 3 (50 cents) = 20

C             20

a)

The person has the most 20 cents has the least value.

The person who has the most 50 cents has the most value.

b)

The overlap 20 cents coins with 50 cents coins is 10.

50 cent – 20 cent = 30 cents

10 × 0.3 = $3

c)

Not matter how many 50 cents used, Alan would have 17 20 cents coins.

17 × 0.2 = $3.40

3.40 + 9.10 = $12.50

$12.50 ÷ 0.5 = 25 coins.

So it doesn’t matter what is you assumption at first, the result will be 25 coins each person  have.
