Question

Hi, can someone help with this question ?

i thought the oxygen collected should be less in Set-up B since the snail will take it in for respiration. However, the answer seem to be (3). Thanks.

Answer

Question not asking for oxygen. It’s asking for general gas instead.

3 is correct as the more the living things present in the habitat, the more gas will be accumulated.

Hi, gas includes carbon dioxide, not only oxygen.

Sometimes photosynthesis is limited by the concentration of carbon dioxide. Even if there is plenty of light, a plant cannot photosynthesise if there is insufficient carbon dioxide.

If the answer is (3), I suppose it is because the water snails provide the carbon dioxide needed for the plants to photosynthesis, and the plants provide the oxygen needed for the snails, therefore ensuring there is sufficient amount of gas.
