I also believe the setter intended the usage of beads  to be 5:3. If follow strictly the words, the answer for u is 3.5 making yellow 10. 5

Another thing, a typo, 35/7 is 5. Hence yellow = 3u = 15.

Agnes had 4 times as many blue beads as yellow beads. For every 5 blue beads she used to make a necklace, she used 3 yellow beads. She completed the necklace after she had used up all the yellow beads. If she had 35 blue beads left, how many yellow beads did she have at first?

blue : yellow
4u : 1u

blue used : yellow used
5p : 3p

1u ——-> 3p
4u ——-> 5p + 35
12p – 5p = 7p ——-> 35
1p ——-> 5
3p ——-> 15

This is a Part Whole question.

1. Used. Blue 5u. Yellow 3u.  * the word blue is omitted.

2. Left. Blue 35. Yellow 0.

 Used Left Total Blue 5u 35 5u + 35 Yellow 3u 0 3u

(5u + 35) / 4  = 3u / 1

5u + 35 = 12u

35 = 12u – 5u

7u = 35

1u = 35 ÷ 5 = 7

3u = 3 × 7 = 21

😊

Note

I tried the 3u for blue. It turn out 1u = 3.5.

So it must be 5u for blue.
