A rectangular tank 40cm wide by 50cm long by 30cm high is filled up with water up to 2/3 of its height. Water flows from a tap into the tank at a rate of 0.5 liter per minute. Find the amount of water in the tank after 30 minutes. Give your answer in liters.

Answer

Note: 1 litre = 1 000 cm cube

2/3 of its height:
2/3 x 30 = 20 cm

Water in the tank:
40 x 50 x 20 = 40 000 cm cube = 40 litres

After 30 mins:
0.5 litre per min x 30 mins = 15 litres

Amount of water in the tank after 30 mins:
40 + 15 = 55 litres
