Question

Hi

Can i clarify if the answer should be “2 mins”?

I had thought so but the answer “3 mins” was marked correct.

Appreciate some clarification here. Thanks much!

Answer

3 minutes is correct. when there is heat gain but no increase in temp, it shows that the ice is melting. Thus, when there starts to be an increase in temp (2 minutes), it means that the ice had completely melted. when it reaches point r (5 minutes), it is at its max temp. So, 5-2 minutes is 3 minutes.

The heat was transferred to the ice cube until it melted. When ice melts, it is a form of heat loss. After it had melted, heat was transferred to the water until it had reached room temperature.

3 minutes is 28 degrees Celsius.

That’s what I thought.
