Question

I heard from a English language teacher that PSLE marking does not penalise students for grammatical errors in the TRUE/FALSE segment of the comprehension open-ended section. She said that although teachers encourage students to write grammatically correct sentence in their answers for school tests/exams, however for PSLE paper, students will still get the full ONE mark as long as their content is correct.

Are there any primary school English teachers who can verify this information?

Thank you.

Answer

Dear Parent,

SEAB has changed the marking scheme and yes, it is true that students are not penalised for the grammatical errors made in the comprehension section provided that the mistakes made do not interfere with the meaning of the sentences. Therefore, please encourage your child to continue to write in good grammatical English as much as possible. Do connect with The Learning Anchors should you need help.
