with 1 paper, 4 stars can be made.

With 4 papers, 16 stars can be made. 3 stars are damaged.Hence effectively 13 stars, for 4 papers.

(a) total money collected = $317.20, each start costs 0.40$

    so total stars = 317.20/.40 = 793 stars

(b) Number of papers used = 793/13= 61 set of 4 papers.

61 x 4 = 244 papers

Hmm…I have a different answer for (b).

From (a), number of good stars -> 793

793 ÷ 13 = 61 sets of 13 good stars

61 × 3 = 183 damaged stars

Total stars made -> 793 + 183 = 976

4 stars -> 1 piece of paper

976 stars -> 976 ÷ 4 = 244 pieces of paper

or

61 sets of 13 good stars

Each set requires 4 pieces of paper

Therefore, 61 sets -> 61 × 4 = 244 pieces of paper
