Mr Poh has mangoes, kiwis and apples at his fruit stall, 30% of his fruits are kiwis. He has 124 mangoes at his stall. He has 12 fewer apples than kiwis.

(a) What is the total number of fruits Mr Poh has?

(b) Mr Poh sold some kiwis later. The total number of fruits decreased by 20%.

What percentage of his fruits was kiwis in the end?

kiwi : 30%
mangoes : 124
apples : 100% – 30% – 124 = 70% – 124
apples + 12 ——-> kiwis
70% – 124 + 12 ——-> 30%
40% ——-> 112
1% ——-> 2.8
100% ——-> 280

(b)
20% ——-> 56
100% – (20% x 100%) = 80% ——-> 224
apples + mangoes ——-> 70% ——->196
[(224 – 196)/224] x 100% = 12.5%

Ans : (a) 280 fruits; (b) 12.5%.
