Question

Can someone help to explain Qn10II) ? Thanks

Answer

In the ecosystem, the prey population must be more than the predators. If predators are more and the prey is less, predators will starve and die. So, in the forest there will be more birds and grasshoppers than the lions.

lions, as apex predators, have 2 food resources, one of them decreases doesnt change the lion population that much, because lions will prey birds instead, so bird population will decrease.

I think a) is also confusing. if snake decrease, then lion decrease, then bird increase. then lion might oso resort to eating more birds so it oso decrease

i think b) is because  its to maintain the ecosystem. if too many lions, ecosystem will be unbalanced. but im p6 so im not sure.

Energy is lost at each trophic level. The higher trophic level, the lower the energy the organism has. Since lions are top predators, they need to consume more prey to make up for the energy lost at each trophic level. However, lions cannot catch the birds easily since they can fly eventhough their population is high.Since they have less energy available to them, their population are also low.
