Sarah and Elena went shopping together with a total of $654. Elena spent 3 times as much as Sarah. They saved the rest of their money. Sarah spent $128 less than what she had saved. In the end, Sarah saved twice as much money as Elena.

B) How much money did Elena have at first

4u + 3p ——-> 654
2p ——-> 1u + 128
1u ——-> 2p – 128
4 x (2p – 128) + 3p = 8p – 512 + 3p = 11p – 512 ——-> 654
1p ——-> (654 + 512)/11 = 106
1u ——-> 2 x 106 – 128 = 84

(b)
3u + 1p ——-> 3 x 84 + 106 = 358

Ans : (a) $84; (b) $358.
