Question

Xiao Hui made some fruit juice and filled two types of bottles, large and small. She filled 2 large bottles and 4 small bottles with 4.4 litres of the juice. She could not fill another large bottle with the remaining juice as she was short of 0.4 litres. Instead, she filled another small bottle with the remaining juice and had 0.3 litres of the juice left. How many litres of fruit juice can a small bottle hold?

Answer

0.5 for small bottle

1.2 for large bottle

First, we know the difference in size is 0.7 litres, (0.4 + 0.3)

4.4 – 0.7 -.7 = 3

3/6 = 0.5 (the size of small bottle)

0.5 + 0.7 = 1.2 (size of large bottle)
