Question

The ratio of the number of red beads to the number of blue beads in box A was 5: 9. There were thrice as many red beads as blue beads in Box B. Mother transferred 1/3 of the blue beads from Box A to box B. There were 385 beads left in Box A and the ratio of the number of red beads to the number of blue beads in Box B became 7: 4.
(A) What was the ratio of the number of red beads to the number of blue beads in Box A in the end?
(b) Find the total number of beads in Box B in the end.

Answer

A(Red) : A(Blue)

5 units : 9 units (Before)

5 units : 6 units (After)

11 units = 385

1 unit = 35

3 units = 105 (Transfer to Box B)

Answer for (a): 5:6

B(Red) : B(Blue)

3 : 1

21 parts : 7 parts (Red is constant)

7 : 4

21 parts : 12 parts (Red is constant)

5 parts = 105

1 part = 21

33 parts = 693

Answer for (b) = 693
