Question

There are 144 visitors at a zoo. 3/4 of the children are boys and the rest are girls. 2/3 of the adults are men and the rest are women. There are 22 more girls than women.

a) What is the ratio of boys to girls?

b) How many children are there at the zoo?

Answer

144 Visitors.

Children –  3 units are boys, 1 unit are girls

(a) Ratio is 3:1 (Ans)

Adults – 2 parts are men 1 part is women

3 parts + 4 units = 144

1 unit is 22 people more than 1 part.

There are 3 parts, hence, 4 units (children) + 4 units(Children) + 3 parts(Adults) + 22(3) = 7 units = 144+22(3) = 210

1 unti is 210/7=30

Number of children = 4 units = 4×30 = 120 (Ans)
