Completed PV in Hong Wen Pri

Just completed PV in Hong wen . My DD will be enrolling in 2017 . Hopefully for PV phase can successful enrol into the school.

Hi mummies out there, can I know how are your kids commute to Hong Wen Primary school. The location at Towner Road doesn’t seem very accessible to public transport.

Ah Pek, Really depends what

Ah Pek,

Really depends what is your definition of good school. If your definition of a good school is one that produces top PSLE students, then this is not a top school. You can see in this website it does not rank very high in terms of producing top students.

Personally i find the Chinese culture is strong in Hong Wen. It has strong focus on Chinese culture, such as "Shu Fa", Chinese music and dance, aside from learning Higher Chinese.

I think it will give our kids a good overall education, especially in Chinese culture, and groom them to handle a very advanced China in their grown up years.

Just my 2 cents.

Hong Wen

I didn’t know anyhing about this school until I moved into an area about 1.5km from Hong Wen. From what i heard in my neigbourhood Hong Wen is an outstanding school. I have also heard many children cried because they couldn’t cope in the Chinese language and parents are losing their sleeps over the high academic standards set by the school.

I want to know is it true Hong Wen is a very good school. I don’t hear much news about that school producing top PSLE students. Only know they are strong in Chinese cultural performances.

Does anybody knows of any ministers or well-known personalities who have graduated from Hong Wen. I am very curious about this school indeed, but wasn’t able to get much info from their website.

PV at St Margaret

Finally… i rec’ call from them… starting 31 Oct.. hopefully, can clock 40hrs..

Hong Wen rejected mine application as too many PV till no job for them to do.. haiz

Re: Student Care at Hong Wen

Hi hnghng,

Right across the CTE from HongWen, at Blk 85 Whampoa Drive, there is a NTUC My First Skool that provides student care services. They call it TSP (The Student Place). I think there is one Indian lady that took care of the students. Not sure of the rates though. You can call them to find out more info.

Hope this helps…

Hello Chief, Thanks for the

Hello Chief,

Thanks for the super duper fast response.

Yes this is permanent address, since Jan this year.

Updated Hong Wen location

Thank you for your notification, mgsim.  We have updated the address accordingly.  Do you know if this is a permanent or temporary address?

Hong Wen Map

The map above showing Hong Wen’s location is outdated. Hong Wen is now located at Towner Road.

Can admin please update it.

Hong Wen

I heard that this school is of Heng Hwa (dialect group) roots, and to be a member of the school, one must be a Heng Hwa..

So my hb paid a membership to be a member.. our girl is 3 years old this year, and getting her prepared to enter this school, to alleviate from all the related hassles.

But I heard from a source, that even being a member, securing a seat is not definite… due to overwhelming response for 2009/2010 placement, may have to ballot too 🙁

Then what is the point of becoming a member??  Con us in the 1st place?

Btw, we are staying at Punggol, but my PIL stay at Whampoa.

Hong Wen Pri

did hong wen pri accept yr PV application?  I send to St Margaret last year but didnt hear from them.

Hong Wen

I want to enrol my child to Hong Wen school & we are still staying within 1km. Besides doing volunteer job, is there any chance to increase my child chances of enrolment? Anyone pls advise. Thanks.

Hong Wen vs St. Andrew's Junior

I am from St Andrew’s myself from eons ago – spent 10 years of my life there.  It is very strong in character development, and the sense of belonging can be quite fanatical… I still feel a very strong attachment to the school after all these years.  While the school’s academic performance has come down over the years not so much due to poor teaching, but more to do with the growing strength of neighbouring schools that led to a more even distribution of good students in the area, the school spirit is still very strong.  It has recently completed (finally!) its consolidation of the entire family of SAINTs schools under one roof with full sports facilities – they call it the St. Andrew’s village – catering to primary, secondary and junior college education, so I expect greater things to come from the school now that it can be focused on generating well-balanced students through its system.

All Saints graduates have an excellent command of English.  However, our command of Chinese is not as strong.  It wasn’t so obvious in the junior school – it is only in the Secondary school that the weakness becomes quite glaring.

Given your Chinese and non-Christian background, I think you would probably be more comfortable with Hong Wen.  Hong Wen is very strong in cultural Chinese, and also a very good academic school.  However, if you feel you want your child to build up on English (with you providing Chinese exposure), and a strong and confident personality, St Andrew’s would be a good option.

Hong Wen vs St. Margaret's

next yr 2009, i’ll be registering my gal for P1. By then , Hongwen will be based on new location and it’s within 1 km from my place. I’m staying 1.5 km from St Margaret pri also.

Was told that there is usually no balloting for St Margaret within 2km, under phase 2C. Hongwen seems popular school and i’m not sure what’s the chance of getting into, even though i’m within 1km.

so i’m thinking and hesitating whether should i send my gal to hongwen or St Margaret.  Anyone can advise me pls?

Hong Wen or St Andrew Junior?

Hi All,

I am in a delimma for half a year. My son is going to P1 next year, till date, I still can’t decide whether to choose Hong wen or St Andrew Junior.

I like Hong wen because I am not a christian and I am very chinese oriented… but ST Andrew is good due to their standard is higher and it can go straight to it’s Secondary school. The only disadvantage is due to it is a christian school and also a single sex school.

Hence, can anyone whose kids already study there advise me is Hong Wen acedmic good? Is their teachers good? Also, is there any disadvantage for kids to join school which is only single sex and no gals? Will it be not so healthy for their growing up? 🙂

Hope parents whose kids study at Saint Andrew and Hong Wen can advise. All feedback is welcom… thank you so much. Need to make a decision soon… sigh…

Hong Wen School - taymeister

My elder boy is in P2 this yr and we just shifted to Whampoa. He was a transfer student. From what i see for first Semster, the school’s standard for Chinese  and Maths is high. My boy’s taking higher Chinese….pretty stressful as it was his first yr taking. In p1 , he was taking the normal chinese. Exam format is different for higher Chinese, they test more of understanding rather then from the text itself esp for the Comprehension.

For Maths, I understand they changed a HOD so the standard kinda went up. The SA1 paper was difficult becoz of the non-routine questions, which requires more higher order thinking. The teacher did expose them to these type of qns but onli one or two qn practise. I was v surprised to see some qns styled like PSLE kind….but in a way is good becoz the school’s training the kids at the lower pri early.

These are my observation so far….any more i will update again…:) Do feel free to email me at if any one of u have kids going in to HONG WEN or already there. I also like to keep in touch with u…

Is Hong Wen a good school?

My mother stays within the 1km range, from Hong Wen Primary School. I just found out that Hong Wen is actually a SAP school, however, I haven’t really heard much of the school. Am planning for registration next year. Pretty stress about it, as I’ve just got rejected for volunteery from many schools. Quite disappointed but I guess, every parent goes thru this process.

Can anyone tell me more about the school? Any parents with kids in Hong Wen?

Hong Wen vs St. Margaret's

My girl Chinese not very good but i myself value Chinese language, need to think about it. Btw, thanks for your info.

Hong Wen vs St. Margaret's

Hong Wen is a SAP school, which means a stronger focus in Chinese and your daughter would be taking Higher Chinese.  St. Margaret’s a missionary and all girls school.  So it depends on whether you value the Chinese language or if you prefer a missionary school.

Hong Wen or St. Magrate Pri?

I would like to put my girl to either Hong Wen or St. Magrate Pri. School for next year intake but not sure which is better? Can any one share with me your recommedation?  Thanks!
