SCGS Alumni

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum. I was an ex-SCGS girl and now I have a daughter I wish to enrol into the school in a couple of years’ time.

However I read on the alumni application form that you need two referees who are currently alumni members to join. Unfortunately, my ex school mates whom I am still in contact with are not members. And I wanted to ask if I could get help from two kind parties to use your membership numbers to submit the application?

Thanks much!

Admssion Test Oct 2011

Just wondering if anyone went for the admission test on 15 Oct and if so have you heard from the school?

My daughter is P3 this year. Hoping to get in next year.

Chances for a PR within 1K at SCGS

Hi, wondering your advice on my chances at SCGS this year. Daughter will be in P1 2011. Will be PR and can move to within 1K in July. I can see the stats are still against me, but interested in any advice to improve my odds or if I should just forget about it. Thanks.

Hi there,

I’m not sure on the ranking of primary schools.

I would like to get my kid into SCGS and am considering seriously of buying an apt within 1km now. I was told that it does not still guarantee a place even in 2C within 1km?

BTW, if she cant get into SCGS, then what happens? There is no schools nearby???

Thanks, Courage. You’ve given a great encouragement! 🙂

Enrichment activities/CCA

Hi Daddygirl, you can access the school website for the enrichment activities/CCA. (It is just too many.) They also change their activities every year. For info, SCGPs is good at dance. These enrichment activities are normally conducted in the afternoon and are at a cheaper rate. Other activities include pottery, inline skating, bowling, synchronised swimming, archery, journalism…… depending on levels, are conducted during the school curriculum after SA exams. Some CCA require practice 2  times/afternoons per week. . Exposure of your child will definitely be different from the neighbourhood schools.

Admission Test

Hi niecoco, If I do not remember wrongly, we got the call within 2 weeks (or may be earlier?)after the interview

Transport @SCGPS

Hi Courage,

Is it a lot of courses/CCA after school hours for SCGPS? Could you share more about it?

Admission Test

Thank you Courage.

How long did you get the call after the interview? I read their website and it was stated as 2 weeks but that was meant for those who are unsuccessful will be getting letter notification after 2 weeks.

Thank you once again 🙂

Admission Test

First of all, you will get a letter from the school stating the date of the test. The test will normally takes place before SA 1 or SA 2 exams, on Saturday/school holiday(e.g. PSLE marking day). If your daughter is selected, your daughter will get a call from the school for an interview after about 2 weeks later. If  your daughter is accepted after the interview, she will have to attend the orientation before the start of the school mid-term or year end holidays. The school will issue the book list and lists of things to prepare during the orientation. The school will do all the necessay process of transfer. You only have to submit the school report book to SCGPS. One important thing to bear in mind is that all the younger sibling must also go through the same process of test for transfer, unless the entry is fresh from P1.

If transport is not a problem for enrichment courses/CCA after school hours,  it is a good try for SCGPS. My youngest one is attending P1 next year.

SCGS vs Primary School at Woodlands

Dear all,

My girl will be registering for P1 this year. We stay at Woodlands with my mum, next to Si Ling Primary School. However, we could also register at SCGS, as our IC address is near there. After considering of the distance, we really wanted to have your opinion whether we should let the kid to try on SCGS, or stay at Si Ling?

Can you advise?

Admission Test

Hi Courage,

How long after the interview, did you get call from the SCGS confirming the place? And once you were offered the place, what is the time frame to process the transfer?

Thank you.

Hi, my girl got into

Hi, my girl got into SCGPS after P1. That was a few years back. You can apply for the admission test any time. However, they only conduct the admission test 2 times a year, depending on availability in that year. That is around May and Sep/Oct before the next new school term starts. We were impressed by the orientation day which was well organised and all the new students were introduced to their form teachers on the same day. The school orgnised a lot of enrichment courses for the students especially after their SA exams. Each year, they are exposed to different sports, arts, etc depending on level. The school emphasizes on equal opportunity among all the students. My girl enjoys the school very much. Athough she is busy everyday and has to travel quite a distance from home, she has no regret. And she likes the sleeveless school uniform!

Hi, when did your daughter

Hi, when did your daughter apply for admission test? Is she now in P1? How is your / your daughter’s experience with the school?

Thanks for sharing!

Admission Test

I am not living within 2 km from SCGPS, however, my daughter got into SCGPS through admission test and interview. She was one of the lucky ones.

For her batch, about 40 students sat for the admission test. They had to sit for 3 papers, that is English, Chinese (incl. composition) and Maths.  Based on the result, about less than 10 (if not mistaken) were called up for interview. Out of the 10, only 4 students were accepted into SCGPS for her level.

For info, the admission test form can be downlaoded from the school website. It will support your interview for the admission a lot if your girl has skills like music, dance, sport or others.

Admission Test

Have anyone tried the admission test & interview with SCGS? Courage mentioned that it is very competitive, as in %? How many % of chances of getting in?

I don't think SCGPS accept

I don’t think SCGPS accept parents as PV before P1. Another way of getting into SCGPS is through their admission test and interview when your daughter is in P1. However, the chance is very competitive.

Chances for SCGPS

Honestly speaking – not good.  Based on historical data, SCGPS requires balloting for those between 1-2km.

Getting into Singapore Chinese Girls Pri School

I am neither living within 2km and a PV, what do you think are the chances of my daughter getting in ?
