Description:

Calvary Baptist Kindergarten (CBK) strives to:

  • Engage young, eager and curious children in the development of their skills and knowledge to prepare them for formal schooling years ahead;
  • Provide a secure, loving and stimulating environment in which individual developmental needs of each child can be met;
  • Promote the welfare and care of children and families in our community by providing quality pre-school education geared to the needs of the community;
  • Create an environment where individual staff and kindergarten team can be optimally developed to benefit the students of CBK, their parents and the community in which CBK is in.

Our curriculum is delivered in a rich, stable and caring environment. It seeks to enable every child to realise his/her cognitive, social, emotional and physical potential and to develop his/her aesthetic awareness.

It extends a child’s range of useful learning and experiences beyond what is provided within the family environment, and to compliment and supplement what is taught as home.

A large variety of resources and equipment is used in planned and progressive ways to stimulate and advance all areas of a child’s development.

It is taught in ways that will aid to stimulate and build upon a child’s curiosity, to enable him/her to learn through planned, worthwhile play activities; to explore his/her environment; to be imaginative and creative; to plan and reflect on his/her experiences.

The curriculum develops a child’s early knowledge, understanding and skills so as to provide a sound platform for later education, and to smoothen the transition to a more formal schooling environment.

As young children do not separate learning into curriculum areas, every aspect of the curriculum will be interrelated and interdependent. The following 6 learning goals form the basic framework for our pre-school curriculum:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Language and literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
