15 Primary Schools That Will Serve as Learning Centres for High Ability Students

From 2027, higher ability students will no longer have to transfer to another primary school to join the Gifted Education Programme.

Instead, they will attend "stretch" classes in their own primary schools. Those who qualify will also attend additional classes at 15 designated primary schools, which will serve as learning centres.

What is replacing the GEP →

To be clear: under this new process, higher ability pupils will stay enrolled at their own school and travel to a learning centre only for additional modules.

Even so, we think that some parents may take an interest in these schools at Primary 1 registration, hoping to cut down on travel later.

To help you find out more about these schools, we have listed each school's address, subjects offered, and co-curricular activities (CCAs) below.

Before you consider these schools

The list of 15 learning centres for higher ability students is not fixed. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has said these schools will be changed upon periodic review. There is also no official duration for how long a school stays a centre.

A child entering Primary 1 now would not sit the identification exercise until Primary 3, by which point the centres may have changed. So while some parents may weigh these schools to cut down on travel later, choosing a primary school on this basis carries no guarantee.

Being at one of these schools also gives no advantage in selection. Identification is through the standardised exercise that every Primary 3 pupil sits, wherever they study.
