Want to visit a primary school before you decide on the best school for your child?
Many primary schools in Singapore will hold open house events between May and July. Some schools have already held events earlier in the year, while a handful may wait till later in the year, or even hold multiple events.
During a school open house, you can explore the school environment, meet teachers and students, and get a sense of the school culture.
Primary school open houses typically take place between May and July, with some schools offering virtual and in-person options.
Use open house visits to explore the school environment, ask teachers clarifying questions, and speak with current students.
If you miss a school’s event or no date is listed, contact the school directly to ask questions or arrange a private visit.
Things to consider when shortlisting schools
Before you shortlist primary schools to visit, one development to be aware of is the ongoing revamp of the Gifted Education Programme (GEP). Going forward, 15 primary schools will serve as designated centres to support higher ability students.

Some things to note about affiliated secondary schools:
All affiliated secondary schools need to set Affiliate Minimum Requirements (AMR) — the minimum PSLE score that students from affiliated primary schools must meet for affiliation priority.
MOE has been supportive of schools’ proposals to tighten their AMR, to facilitate greater access for non-affiliated students.
From 2019, MOE has also required secondary schools to reserve at least 20% of places in each Posting Group at Secondary One for non-affiliated students.
MOE does not limit the difference between the Cut-Off Point (COP) for non-affiliated students and the AMR, as the COP is determined by demand and choice patterns.
While the above schools are generally better known by the parent community, they may not be easy to get into.
To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to also consider schools that aren’t as “famous.” What’s more important is a nurturing environment and strong teacher-student relationships, because this will shape how your child feels about school, and their confidence and motivation for the next six years.
What to find out at school open house events
During open house talks, schools may request that questions remain general, so that the session stays relevant for all attendees. When in open house settings, it’s best to ask clarifying questions that build on what’s already been shared.
For example:
You mentioned that your school is very strong in inquiry-based learning. What does that look like in a Primary 1 classroom?
You said teachers will do regular check-ins with parents. Is this face-to-face or online? How often will this take place? Is it more about learning progress, classroom behaviour, or how the child is settling in?
You spoke about student leadership. Are there leadership opportunities at all levels, and what are they? How do you support the quieter or more introverted students, and give them opportunities as well?
Some open houses also include a CCA fair, often run by students. Although the students are young, asking them a few simple questions can be revealing:
Why did you choose this CCA?
What do you enjoy about it?
Is it hard sometimes?
How much time do you spend on it each week?
Do you have good friends in your CCA?
Do you have time for homework and rest?
What’s your favourite part of school?
What would you change about school, if you could?
Speaking with students, teachers, and other parents helps you get a clearer picture of what life at the school is really like, and it will make the open house experience more engaging for your child.
Primary school open house dates in 2026
Schoolbag is your best resource for school open house dates, as this is a Ministry of Education-affiliated website.
Below, we’ve organised the announced dates for easy reference, so you can see which open house events have already taken place, and what’s upcoming.
Don’t worry if you’ve missed an open house event, or can’t make it for a scheduled session. Try to set up a private meeting with the school instead. And if your school of interest doesn’t have a listed event, do contact them directly.
