Church members don't automatically get the P2B recommendation letters from the pastors. I know that they need to have served min 3 years in the church. But of course, it's the pastors' prerogative to decide to issue the letters or not. Religion is a sacred thing, so baptised last minute just to get into Mtd schools is quite unfathomable to me. Pres churches are stricter, people need to go for baptism classes (which take time) first before they can be allowed to be baptised.Scary wrote:markfch,
PH very strict in issuing letters. Think cos of the reduction in no. of classes and in the past years, quite a no. of church members abused the priority and stopped going to church after kids got into the school. Thus, they are very cautious and selective in allowing church members to register under phase 2B. At the same time, I think also to protect the PVs. Last year, many PVs out of 2km did not get into the school at Phase 2B, though most if not all got in subsequently.
DS is in a church kindergarten and attends Glory Sunday school. He insists in trying PH cos it's a mission school. Also nearest to our place, easy for this snail.
Actually a lot of church members abuse Phase 2B priority. I have friends who told me pple are willing to help if they want to try for catholic schools, i.e. to baptise their kids. Also, parents baptised last min just to try Methodist schools. Personally, I think religion is a no-play stuff.

156 places taken up already !php wrote:Vacancies as at 29 Jun 2011

No of Children Registered for Phase 1 : 156
Balance Vacancies : 144
How many left after P2A2 ? Looks like this year P2C balloting within 1km is unavoidable again.
It's ridiculous to be an 'active church member' to be under P2B and then not go to church after child gets in. It's not right to do that.
A friend told me she's trying to be PV in PH...but with the reduction of classes, I doubt she will have a chance under P2B and more than 2km. Her son is due for P1 registration next year.

Janet,
This is very common. I didn't know a friend was a Christian till she told me she has the recommendation letter from Methodist church. Another friend told me her colleague offered to help in getting her kid baptised for them to try the nearest catholic school.
I won't be so worried if mine is a DD. I have two girls' schools to try with high chances. Very limited choices for boys in this area.
Picolo,
Yes, both church and school are strict, unlike others.

Can't think of a boys' school in BT. There is MGS and RGPS (all girls). Maybe this is the reason why Nanyang, Henry Park and Pei Hwa are so hot in BT...being co-ed schools.Scary wrote:Janet,

Do you let your boy play the computer game everyday ? Or he is computer genic and must turn on the "Power" to gear into online worksheets that daddy gives everyday as computer assignment ?markfch wrote: T told me that ds looks tired these few days. SJI Junior is out of BT. ACS Junior/SCGS is not under 'Bukit Timah' zone. Schools are carved out under diff 'zone' like GRCs during election.Mum1113 wrote:St Joseph Junior, ACS Barker, ACS Junior....if consider whole Bukit Timah stretch...janet_lee88 wrote:Can't think of a boys' school in BT. I hv banned computer games on weekdays. Effective ytd, outdoor play as well. My P4 boy still cant understand my policy of Work First, Play Later. Hence this painful ban.

You mean h/w? No, we do it the old fashion way ...... pencil, paper and the occasional nagging.Mum1113 wrote: Do you let your boy play the computer game everyday ? Or he is computer genic and must turn on the "Power" to gear into online worksheets that daddy gives everyday as computer assignment ?
I can never do that. It breaks my heart to see ds miserable. As long as he does his work daily, I'm fine with the order of things.Jennifer wrote: I hv banned computer games on weekdays.
